Road re-surfacing during October

Many of you will have received letters from the DoE Road Service alerting you to the plans to resurface parts of the Causeway Road this month.

John McKinley, the engineer in charge offered to meet local people who will be affected by the work, and so I contacted him on behalf of the Association, and spoke to him on Monday.

He is happy to attend a meeting to discuss the plans, however he stated that they were still in negotiations with a contractor and details had not been finalised yet, but will contact me as soon as he is in a position to have final details agreed.

The letter outlines how the Road Service propose to organise their work schedule to allow as much access as possible during the re-surfacing, and he is keen to minimise the disruption to local people and businesses during this necessary piece of essential maintenance.

Factors such as the Halloween break and the Ploughing Championships have also complicated matters somewhat, although he assured me that no roads will be closed during the holidays.

I will keep everyone updated as to when Mr McKinley will be in a position to meet with anyone who would like more clarification as to what is happening when, and also if you have any requirements that may need to be taken into consideration during the work program.

November 2012

There are three meetings coming up:

Monday 12th November; hosted by the Dunseverick Community Association at Dunseverick School, 7.00pm.

This meeting has been arranged with the National Trust to allow for community feedback about the new Visitor Centre and how we feel that things have gone this year. Because there may be alot of issues, Harold Kerr has asked that if you wish to raise an issue or contribute your own observations or thoughts then submitting some detail in writing beforehand would be the best way forward – I am happy to take messages via text, email, phone or written before Friday (Mitch).

Tuesday 13th November; monthly GCCA meeting, Causeway School at 7.30pm. Please make every effort to attend as there will be alot to discuss.

Wednesday 14th November; meeting about the National Park proposal at Sheskburn.

Jubilee Celebrations

This year marks Queen Elizabeths Diamond Jubilee. Plans are afoot to make the Jubilee holiday celebrations something special and memorable.

The Giants Causeway Community Association, along with Bushmills Community Association will be holding a Festival Day on Monday June 4th, at the Clay Field in Bushmills.

This event is part of what promises to be a great community celebration – the Olympic Torch is passing through Bushmills on Sunday 3rd June and Bushmills is holding a street party on Tuesday 5th June.

Keep yourself up to date with what’s┬áplanned and bring any ideas that you may have along to our monthly meeting – we want to make this a day to remember!
